Description

SMLIGHT SLZB-MRW10U | Ethernet PoE & USB Multi-Protocol Coordinator (Zigbee, Z-Wave, Thread)

Get the most out of your smart home with the SMLIGHT SLZB-MRW10U. This advanced multi-radio network adapter combines Z-Wave 800 with either Zigbee 3.0 or Thread/Matter in one powerful module. Thanks to its smart dual-chipset architecture, the device runs Z-Wave 800 simultaneously with either Zigbee 3.0 or Thread (for Matter). Whether you are looking for a powerful Zigbee coordinator with Z-Wave support or a Z-Wave controller via Ethernet or USB-C: the SLZB-MRW10U handles your network protocols locally and reliably.

Multi-Radio Chipsets: Z-Wave 800 + Zigbee 3.0 OR Thread/Matter

Under the hood of the SLZB-MRW10U lies a sophisticated arsenal of hardware. The Silicon Labs EFR32ZG23 chip handles communication for Z-Wave 800 (including Long Range support). For the 2.4 GHz band, the adapter includes a powerful Texas Instruments CC2674P10 chip (+20 dBm PA). Via the built-in SLZB-OS dashboard, you can easily choose which function this 2.4 GHz chip performs: as a Zigbee 3.0 coordinator or as a Thread Border Router (Matter). Important: because the 2.4 GHz chip processes either Zigbee or Thread, you use the adapter as [Z-Wave + Zigbee] or as [Z-Wave + Thread], but not all three protocols simultaneously. An ESP32 chip controls the unit via Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth LE (suitable for Home Assistant BLE Proxy), and the intuitive web interface.

Flexible Power and Connection: Ethernet with PoE & USB-C

Thanks to support for Power over Ethernet (PoE 48V) and USB-C, you are not tied to a location right next to your server. Place the adapter in the most optimal, central location in the house – such as in the utility cupboard or on an upper floor – simply by connecting one network cable with PoE. With the two included external SMA antennas (2.4 GHz for Zigbee/Thread and 868/900 MHz for Z-Wave), you enjoy unparalleled coverage throughout the building.

Ecosystems & Compatibility

  • Home Assistant: Full local integration via network (IP) or USB with Z-Wave JS UI and optionally Zigbee2MQTT / ZHA (for Zigbee) or OpenThread Border Router (for Matter/Thread). This makes the adapter the ultimate hardware choice within a Home Assistant environment.
  • Homey Pro: Cannot be connected directly via hardware (USB/Ethernet) to the internal engine of the Homey Pro. However, devices connected via Home Assistant can be forwarded to Homey within a hybrid smart home setup.
  • SmartThings: Cannot be connected directly as an expansion module to a SmartThings Hub. Sensors and devices linked to the SLZB-MRW10U can, however, be made visible within SmartThings via overarching Matter or Home Assistant integrations.
  • Tuya / Smart Life: No direct connection to the Tuya Cloud app. Almost all Tuya Zigbee devices can, however, be linked directly and locally to this coordinator via Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA (if set to Zigbee mode), without dependency on Tuya servers.
Pro-Tip from slimhuisje.nl: Power the SLZB-MRW10U via PoE over Ethernet and place the adapter centrally in the home. By keeping the coordinator away from sources of interference such as heavy USB 3.0 ports or Wi-Fi routers, you elevate the stability of your network to an unprecedented level! Link the Z-Wave chip to Z-Wave JS UI and set the 2.4 GHz chip via SLZB-OS to the desired protocol (Zigbee 3.0 or Thread).

Functionalities & Physical Actions

  • Simultaneous support for Z-Wave 800 combined with either Zigbee 3.0 or Thread/Matter (configurable via SLZB-OS firmware).
  • Bluetooth LE Proxy functionality for Home Assistant & Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz support via ESP32.
  • Flexible communication and power via Ethernet (48V PoE IEEE 802.3af) or USB-C data and power cable.
  • Integrated SLZB-OS web interface with dashboard, OTA firmware updates, network settings, and protocol selection.
  • Dual external SMA antennas included (1x 2.4 GHz for Zigbee/Thread and 1x 868/900 MHz for Z-Wave).
  • Equipped with 6 status LEDs (system, network, and radio SoCs) and a multi-function button for resets and mode selection.
  • Versatile mounting options: suitable for wall mounting, DIN-rail mounting, or adhesive mounting.

Package contents and dimensions

  • 1x SMLIGHT SLZB-MRW10U Multi-Protocol Adapter
  • 1x External 2.4 GHz SMA antenna (Zigbee / Thread)
  • 1x External 868/900 MHz SMA antenna (Z-Wave)
  • 1x Mounting kit (suitable for wall, DIN-rail, or adhesive mounting)
  • 1x Quick start guide
  • Product dimensions: 80 x 50 x 20 mm (excluding external antennas)

Important usage note: This adapter features two physical radio chips: one dedicated Z-Wave 800 chip and one 2.4 GHz chip. The 2.4 GHz chip supports Zigbee 3.0 or Thread (Matter), but not both 2.4 GHz protocols simultaneously. You therefore use the device as [Z-Wave + Zigbee] OR as [Z-Wave + Thread]. Z-Wave support on this adapter is intended for evaluation/testing (non-certified) and works optimally via Z-Wave JS UI. A PoE switch or PoE injector is required for power via Ethernet (otherwise, it can be powered via 5V USB-C).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. What is the SMLIGHT SLZB-MRW10U and what makes it unique?

The SMLIGHT SLZB-MRW10U is a universal network adapter that combines Z-Wave 800 with Zigbee 3.0 or Thread/Matter. Unique is the ability to provide power and data via Ethernet with PoE, allowing you to place it anywhere in the home for optimal range of your wireless networks.

2. Can I use Zigbee, Z-Wave, and Thread all three at the same time?

No. The adapter contains two physical radios: one dedicated Z-Wave 800 chip and one 2.4 GHz chip. The 2.4 GHz chip can be set as a Zigbee 3.0 coordinator or as a Thread Border Router (Matter). You therefore use the adapter in a combination of Z-Wave + Zigbee or Z-Wave + Thread, but not with all three protocols simultaneously.

3. Which software and integrations does this adapter support?

The adapter is excellent for use with Home Assistant via Z-Wave JS (UI) combined with Zigbee2MQTT, ZHA (Zigbee Home Automation), or OpenThread Border Router. Management of the device and protocol selection is done via the built-in SLZB-OS web interface in your browser.

4. How is the SLZB-MRW10U powered?

You can power the device via Power over Ethernet (PoE 48V) over the RJ45 network cable or via a standard 5V USB-C cable. No batteries are required for the operation of the adapter.

5. Can I link the SLZB-MRW10U directly to Homey Pro or SmartThings?

No, smart platforms like Homey Pro or SmartThings do not support connecting external multi-radio network adapters at the hardware level. The adapter is primarily used on a Home Assistant host or your own server, after which linked devices can potentially be forwarded.

6. Do I have to update the radio firmware separately?

The built-in SLZB-OS web interface makes updating the firmware for both the ESP32 system and the TI and Silicon Labs radio networks very simple and clear via over-the-air (OTA) updates.
