Smart Home Server Y5: The Powerful and Complete Local Smart Home Server
Are you tired of a jumble of separate apps, flaky cloud connections, and smart home devices that refuse to communicate with each other? The Smart Home Server Y5 is a powerful, complete, and ready-to-use solution that brings all your smart devices together on a single platform—locally, super-fast, and 100% private.
The Home Assistant Operating System (HAOS) is already installed before the box arrives. Plug in the network cable, launch the Home Assistant Companion App or web interface, and you can get started right away. Ideal for beginners and experienced users who want more power, memory, and connections than the standard Home Assistant Green.
Why choose a Home Assistant Smart Home Server?
- 100% Local Control & Privacy: All your data stays in your own home. No mandatory cloud services, no monthly subscriptions, and your automations keep working even if your internet connection drops.
- Pre-installed (Plug & Play): No complicated installation sessions. HAOS is already installed and configured. Plug in the network cable and get started right away.
Why choose the Y5 instead of the Green?
- Significantly More Powerful Processor: The Intel Core i3 (4th generation) offers about twice the raw computing power of the Rockchip RK3566 in the Green. You'll notice the difference with more demanding tasks such as Frigate, local voice control, or running multiple add-ons simultaneously.
- Double the Memory & Four Times the Storage: 8 GB RAM and 128 GB SSD versus 4 GB / 32 GB on the Green. Plenty of headroom for long histories, backups, media, and additional containers.
- Built-in Bluetooth: Unlike the Green, this server comes with Bluetooth 4.2 as standard. Ideal for Bluetooth devices and presence detection.
- More and Faster USB Ports: 4× USB 3.0 + Type-C versus just 2× USB 2.0. Ideal for multiple dongles (Zigbee, Z-Wave, Thread) or external storage.
- Two HDMI Outputs: Useful for diagnostics or temporary screens. The Green has only one HDMI port (for diagnostics only).
- Free Wall Mount: Includes a convenient mounting bracket so you can mount the server neatly and securely on a wall or in the fuse box.
Network & Stability
This Smart Home Server comes with Gigabit Ethernet and Bluetooth 4.2. WiFi is available in the hardware, but we disable it in the BIOS. Home Assistant works most reliably via a fixed network cable, and disabling WiFi helps reduce unnecessary power consumption.
Complete Your Smart Home with These Essential Upgrades:
-
Zigbee & Matter over Thread: Plug a Zigbee dongle (such as the Home Assistant Connect ZBT-2) into one of the USB ports and communicate locally with Philips Hue, Aqara, and other devices via
ZHAorZigbee2MQTT. -
Z-Wave: Add a Z-Wave dongle for professional sensors and smart in-wall modules with greater range and S2 security via
Z-Wave JS UI. - Bluetooth: This server has built-in Bluetooth. For even better coverage throughout your home, you can use additional Bluetooth Proxies from Shelly (Gen 2+) or Apollo Automation.
- P1 Energy Meter: Connect a P1 meter to read your energy consumption in real time and automate it based on solar panel output or off-peak tariffs.
- Need Extra USB Ports? With 4× USB 3.0 + Type-C, you already have many more options than the Green. If you still want a hub, the Orico USB Hub is always a handy addition.
Works Seamlessly with Your Existing Smart Home
Through integrations, you can effortlessly connect Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings to your Smart Home Server Y5. This allows you to manage all your different ecosystems from a single central interface.
Already Using Homey? This server is the ultimate addition! Keep the simple operation and Flows of your Homey, while Home Assistant handles the heavy, complex automations, extensive energy insights, and specific local integrations in the background. The two systems exchange data seamlessly.
Automation in Practice
- Everyday: Set up an automation that turns off the outdoor lighting every evening at 10:00 PM and turns it back on at 6:30 AM.
- Advanced: Connect a water leak sensor to your Z-Wave dongle. If moisture is detected, Home Assistant immediately sends a push notification to your phone via the free Companion App and simultaneously automatically closes the smart main valve to prevent water damage.
New to Home Assistant? No worries! In our comprehensive Home Assistant startup guide, we explain step by step how to install, configure, and learn how to use the hub.

Yes! Thanks to the pre-installed HAOS software and the clear web interface, you can get started without complicated code. Advanced users immediately benefit from the extra computing power, memory, and connections.
Is this more powerful than the Home Assistant Green?
Yes. The Intel Core i3 offers clearly more raw computing power, and you get 8 GB RAM (vs 4 GB) and a 128 GB SSD (vs 32 GB). Ideal if you want more headroom for Frigate, voice control, or multiple add-ons.
Does this server have built-in Zigbee or Z-Wave?
No, just like the Green. You can easily add these protocols yourself with a USB dongle. The advantage: you have 4× USB 3.0 ports at your disposal.
Can I use Bluetooth?
Yes, Bluetooth 4.2 is built in as standard. For optimal coverage throughout your home, you can use additional Bluetooth Proxies from Shelly or Apollo Automation.
Why is WiFi disabled?
Home Assistant works most reliably via a fixed network cable. By disabling WiFi in the BIOS, we prevent unnecessary power consumption and potential interference.
Does the server also work without an internet connection?
Yes! All your local devices, sensors, and automations will continue to function perfectly without the internet. You only need an internet connection for software updates and optional remote access.
