Replacing an existing electric roller blind, Venetian blind, or curtain system with a completely new smart solution is often overkill. The SONOFF Orb-ZBRBS solves this by being mounted behind your existing wall switch. This allows you to control your blinds via the app, with schedules, or through automations, without modifying the motor or wiring.

Power and connectivity

The device operates on 100 to 240V AC and supports motors up to a maximum load of 1A. Communication takes place via Zigbee 3.0, which enables direct pairing with a Zigbee gateway. A neutral wire is required for installation, and the recommended wiring is 18 to 14 AWG solid or stranded copper wire.

Functionality and settings

Thanks to the calibration function, you can control roller blinds and Venetian blinds with percentage precision, ensuring exact positioning and better light or temperature control. The module also supports direction reversal, scheduling, and works with multiple types of sun protection, including curtains, roller blinds, awnings, and projection screens. The housing is white and measures 86 by 86 by 34 millimeters, suitable for standard EU flush-mounted boxes.

Expansion and Zigbee network

In addition to its basic function, the Orb-ZBRBS acts as a Zigbee router, thereby strengthening your network's signal and increasing coverage. Feel free to combine the module with other Zigbee switches in your home for a more stable network, or supplement your setup with products from the smart shading category.

Safety and reliability

The housing is made of polycarbonate and the device is suitable for use within a temperature range of -10°C to 40°C and a humidity of 5 to 95 percent RH, without condensation. The device is CE and RoHS certified. During installation, always ensure that your sun protection's motor stays within the maximum 1A to prevent overheating or damage.

Home Assistant

The Orb-ZBRBS integrates directly with Home Assistant via both ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT.

1. Put the device in pairing mode by holding down the button until the LED flashes
2. Start the device discovery function in ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT and wait for the device to be found
3. After pairing, the device appears as a cover entity, for example cover.living_room_roller_blind
4. The device also functions as a Router within the Zigbee network, thereby strengthening your signal
5. Local control is fully guaranteed, without reliance on a cloud connection

Homey

⚠️ Please note: neither the official Sonoff app nor the community Sonoff Zigbee app for Homey currently support this device. Users report that pairing via Homey Pro therefore does not work or only works to a limited extent. Please take this into account when making your purchase decision if you specifically work with Homey.

Other platforms

For Matter support, a Zigbee Bridge Ultra in combination with a Matter hub on the same local network is required. Direct support for Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa is not available without this intermediate step.

1. Everyday automation: set a schedule in Home Assistant where the roller blind automatically opens to 100 percent at 7:30 AM every morning and closes again at 9:00 PM in the evening.
2. Advanced automation: link a light sensor to the automation and set the condition that the roller blind only closes if the outdoor temperature exceeds 25 degrees Celsius, combined with a notification to your phone once the action has been performed.

Points of attention

The motor of your sun protection must not draw more than 1A; if in doubt, check the type plate of your motor. A neutral wire is mandatory for this installation. Homey users currently do not have full support for this device.
