Sonoff Orb-MW1 (MINIR4M-E) Matter WiFi Wall Switch
An old-fashioned wall switch offers no insight and no app control. The Sonoff Orb-MW1 replaces that switch and adds Matter support, allowing you to control your lighting locally via the button or through any Matter-certified platform, without being tied to a single ecosystem.
Power and Connectivity
The switch operates on 100-240V~ 50/60Hz with an ESP32-C3FN4 microcontroller and connects via 2.4GHz WiFi (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n). Live-neutral wiring is required; this device does not support neutral-less installation. In addition to Matter, you can also pair the device with the eWeLink app for cloud control, as an alternative to the local Matter mode.
Functionality and Settings
The switching capacity is a maximum of 10A for resistive loads. The button on the device and the app button typically control the same relay, but with "Detach Relay" mode, you can decouple them. This is useful if you connect a smart lamp that you prefer not to physically disconnect from the mains. The device does not have a dimming function or energy metering.
Expansion and Accessories
To expand your Zigbee or Z-Wave network in addition to this WiFi device, you can consider our Zigbee USB controllers or the broader range of switches.
Safety and Reliability
For installation, a Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) or RCBO with a rating of 10A is mandatory in the circuit to which the device is connected. Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician. ⚠️ Never work on the terminal blocks while the device is live. Operating temperature is between -10°C and 40°C at 5-95% relative humidity, non-condensing.
Home Assistant
The Orb-MW1 works with Home Assistant via its built-in Matter integration, which runs on the python-matter-server add-on.
- Power on the device; the LED will flash "two short, one long" as soon as pairing mode is active.
- In Home Assistant, go to Settings > Devices & Services > Add Matter.
- Scan the Matter QR code on the device or in the quick guide.
- Home Assistant will commission the device via the matter-server add-on.
After pairing, a single switch entity will appear for the on/off function. Local control is confirmed once the device is commissioned via Matter; it works completely locally without a cloud connection. The eWeLink cloud is only necessary if you consciously choose that mode instead of Matter.
Homey
Homey Pro with firmware supporting Matter can add the Orb-MW1 directly via its built-in Matter function, without a separate app. Homey Bridge currently does not offer Matter support, so Homey Pro is required for this device.
Other Platforms
Via Matter, the switch also works with Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and SmartThings, without the need for an additional hub.
Automation Examples
Everyday: trigger time 10:00 PM, action switch.turn_off on the Orb-MW1 entity, result: lights turn off automatically every evening.
Advanced: trigger motion sensor, condition sun is down, action switch.turn_on followed by a notification to your phone via notify.mobile_app, result: lights only turn on automatically with motion in the dark, with a notification on your phone.
Points to Consider
No neutral-less installation possible; live-neutral wiring is mandatory. No energy metering and no dimming function on board. For Homey, a Homey Pro with Matter support is required; Homey Bridge does not work.
Box Contents
The package contains the Orb-MW1 switch and a quick start guide with the Matter QR code. We could not verify the exact additional accessories with 100% certainty; in case of doubt, check with the supplier.
Compatibility
Compatible with Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, SmartThings, and Home Assistant via Matter over WiFi, and with Homey Pro via its built-in Matter function. Also usable in the eWeLink app as a cloud-based alternative.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Sonoff Orb-MW1 work with Home Assistant?
Yes, via Home Assistant's built-in Matter integration and the python-matter-server add-on. After commissioning, a switch entity will appear that works entirely locally.
Do I need a hub for this device?
No, the Orb-MW1 connects directly via WiFi and Matter; no separate hub or Thread Border Router is needed.
Does this device come with a battery?
No, the Orb-MW1 operates on 100-240V~ mains power and does not require a battery.
Can I expand this device with other protocols?
The device itself works via WiFi and Matter. For a Zigbee network in addition to this device, you can look at our Zigbee USB controllers.
Is the Orb-MW1 compatible with Homey?
Yes, but only with Homey Pro that supports Matter. Homey Bridge does not offer Matter support.
Can I use this device without a neutral wire?
No, this model requires live-neutral wiring. There is no neutral-less variant available for this version.
What is the limitation of the Detach Relay mode?
