Four Sockets, Fully Under Control

For those who want to smartly control multiple devices from a single power strip, the Shelly Power Strip 4 Gen4 offers a robust solution. Each of the four Schuko sockets can be switched individually and measures the power consumption of the connected device in real time. This makes it possible to precisely track what a device consumes, without external energy meters.

Power and Connectivity

The Power Strip is powered via the mains (220-240 V~, 50/60 Hz) through a 1.5-meter connection cable (H05VV-F 3G 1.5 mm²). Wireless connection is established via WiFi 802.11 b/g/n/ax (2.4 GHz), Bluetooth 5.0, and Zigbee (IEEE 802.15.4). The device is configured in Matter mode by default; you can easily switch to Zigbee mode using a button combination.

The Power Strip also functions as a WiFi range extender, BLE gateway, and Zigbee repeater, directly expanding the coverage of your smart home network.

Functionality and Settings

Each socket has a maximum load of 12 A. The total across all four sockets is limited to 16 A (3680 W). Each socket has a multicolor LED that typically indicates consumption via a green-yellow-red color gradient (0-50-100% of the set maximum). The brightness and color are adjustable, including a night mode that automatically dims the LED during sleeping hours.

Other features: 20 adjustable schedules, webhooks (20 triggers with 5 URLs each), scripting via the built-in script engine, MQTT support, and KNX net/IP. OTA firmware updates are automatically performed via the Shelly Smart Control app or local web interface. The strip is protected against overheating, overvoltage, overcurrent, and overload.

Expansion and Accessories

The Power Strip works seamlessly with other Shelly Gen4 devices in your network. As a Zigbee repeater, it extends the range of other Zigbee end devices. Use the Shelly Smart Control app for free energy monitoring and automation, or connect directly to Home Assistant for full local control.

Home Assistant

In the standard WiFi/Matter mode, use the official Shelly integration in Home Assistant for local, cloud-independent control via the RPC protocol. In Zigbee mode, pair the device via ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT.

Pairing Procedure (WiFi/Shelly Integration)

1. Connect the Power Strip to the socket.
2. Connect your phone or PC to the WiFi access point ShellyPStripG4-XXXXXXXXXXXX.
3. Set up your home network via the web interface or Shelly Smart Control app.
4. Home Assistant automatically detects the device via the Shelly integration (Settings > Devices & services).
5. Confirm pairing and name the device.

Pairing Procedure (Zigbee Mode)

1. Press and hold button 1, then quickly press button 4 five times to switch to Zigbee firmware.
2. Press and hold button 1, then quickly press button 4 three times to start pairing mode.
3. Open Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA and start adding a device.
4. The device will appear as Shelly Power Strip 4 Gen4.

Zigbee Role: Router (repeater). Local control confirmed via WiFi (RPC) and Zigbee. Shelly Cloud is optional.

Homey

Pairing via the official Shelly app on Homey Pro (via WiFi/local). Homey Bridge may support limited functionality. Matter pairing is also available on Homey Pro via the built-in Matter function.

Other Platforms

For Matter pairing, a Matter-compatible controller is required, such as an Apple TV 4K, Google Nest Hub (2nd generation), or Home Assistant as a Matter controller.

Automation Examples

Example 1 – Automatically Turn Off Forgotten Devices

1. Trigger: sensor.powerstrip_socket_1_power drops below 5 W.
2. Condition: time is later than 10:00 PM.
3. Action: turn off switch.powerstrip_socket_1.
4. Optional: send a notification via the HA Companion app: “Iron switched off”.

Example 2 – Workspace Power Off When Leaving Home

1. Trigger: last person leaves the home zone (person entity or HA Companion app).
2. Condition: time between 08:00 AM and 08:00 PM.
3. Action 1: turn off socket 2 (monitor) and socket 3 (speakers) via switch.powerstrip_socket_2 and switch.powerstrip_socket_3.
4. Action 2: wait 10 minutes, then check consumption via sensor.powerstrip_socket_2_power.
5. Action 3: send confirmation notification: “Workspace is powered off”.

⚠️ Important Notes

• WiFi/Matter and Zigbee cannot be active simultaneously; choose one mode via the firmware switch.
• Maximum load per socket: 12 A; total across all four sockets: 16 A.
• Intended for indoor use, ambient temperature -20 °C to 40 °C.
• Shelly Cloud is optional; all functions work locally.
