Description

RFXCOM RFX-433EMC: The ultimate universal 433 MHz bridge for your Smart Home

Do you still have perfectly working devices in your home that operate on the 433.92 MHz frequency? Think of Somfy RTS roller shutters, KlikAanKlikUit switches, wireless weather stations, or Brel window coverings? With the modern RFXCOM RFX-433EMC, you get the most powerful universal transceiver to seamlessly, stably, and completely locally integrate this 'legacy' equipment into Home Assistant or Domoticz.

What makes the EMC version unique?

  • Send and Receive (Transceiver): This module not only listens to sensors (such as temperature meters or motion detectors) but can also send active commands to control motors, roller shutters, and switches.
  • Built-in Wi-Fi & MQTT Auto Discovery: This is the biggest upgrade compared to older RFXCOM models. You no longer have to plug the module into your smart home server with a USB cable. Thanks to Wi-Fi, you can place it in the most central spot in your home for optimal range. Through MQTT, devices communicate directly with your network.
  • 100% Local & Privacy-first: No cloud, no external servers, and no mandatory subscriptions. All signals and automations are processed directly indoors on your own smart home controller.

European Compatibility Guide: What works and what doesn't?

The 433 MHz frequency is used by hundreds of brands in Europe, but the underlying technology varies greatly. Below you will find the exact overview of popular European series and models that are compatible:

1. Sun blinds, Roller Shutters & Curtain Motors

  • Somfy RTS (433.42 MHz):Yes, works perfectly. This includes almost all popular Somfy RTS motors for articulated arm awnings, roller shutters, and garage doors.
❌ Please note: Somfy io-homecontrol (868 MHz) uses a completely different frequency and strong encryption; this does not work.
  • MotionBlinds (Coulisse):Yes, the traditional 433 MHz RF motors work perfectly. The EMC version even supports bi-directional feedback, so you can see the exact status of your roller blind in Home Assistant.
❌ Please note: The newer Eve MotionBlinds work via Bluetooth and Thread (2.4 GHz) and are not compatible.
  • Brel & Dooya:Yes, works perfectly. The commonly used 433 MHz tubular motors for roller blinds and Venetian blinds are fully supported.
  • Luxaflex (PowerView):No. Luxaflex uses its own PowerView system (on the 2.4 GHz band) and always requires the official Luxaflex Hub.

2. Switches, Dimmers & Smart Plugs

  • KlikAanKlikUit (KaKu) / Trust Smart Home:Yes, 100% support. This applies to both older transmitters/receivers with the well-known rotary dials (ARC protocol) and modern versions with automatic code learning (AC protocol), such as the ACM-3500 or the ACD-3000 plug dimmers.
❌ Please note: Zigbee products from the Kaku Plus line do not work on this, of course.
  • DiO Home / Chacon:Yes. This sister protocol of KlikAanKlikUit (widely sold in Belgium and France) works directly plug-and-play.
  • Intertechno / COOP:Yes. These brands are the absolute standard in Germany and Austria for wireless switches and are fully supported.
  • Elro / Flamingo:Yes. The well-known budget plug sets and basic smoke detectors found in large European DIY stores generally work directly via the universal 433 protocol.

3. Weather Stations & Environmental Sensors (Reception)

  • Oregon Scientific:Yes. Almost all known V1, V2, and V3 protocols of Oregon anemometers, rain gauges, and temperature sensors are flawlessly received.
  • TFA Dostmann & Cresta:Yes. Popular European weather sensors transmitting on 433.92 MHz are automatically read.
  • Ecowitt & Sonoff Plant Sensors:No. The European versions of Ecowitt work on 868 MHz (and require an Ecowitt Gateway). Sonoff currently does not make 433 MHz plant sensors; plant and soil sensors almost always work via Zigbee or Bluetooth.

4. Garden, Patio & Outdoor Living (The perfect range)

Supported outdoor applications include:

  • Splash-proof outdoor sockets & lighting: Switch or dim your garden lighting, pond pump, and ambient lighting using the popular outdoor series from KlikAanKlikUit (Trust Outdoor), Smartwares, and DiO Home.
  • Awnings & Patio Covers: Control electric articulated arm awnings, zip screens, and pergola awnings equipped with a Somfy RTS-, Brel-, or Dooya motor. Even Somfy patio heaters with an RTS receiver are supported!
  • Wireless weather stations: Read real-time data from wireless rain gauges, anemometers, and outdoor thermometers from brands like Oregon Scientific, TFA Dostmann, and Cresta to proactively protect your home from storms or heat.

❌ Please note: Soil sensors, water computers, and lawnmowers from Gardena (Smart System) work on 868 MHz via their own gateway and are not compatible with this 433 MHz transceiver.

Smart automations in practice

Smart storm protection: Link an affordable 433 MHz weather station to your setup. As soon as the anemometer registers a strong gust of wind, your smart home server sends a signal via the RFX-433EMC directly to your Somfy RTS awning to retract it safely.

Automated sun blinds: Have your Brel or MotionBlinds roller blinds automatically lower based on the position of the sun and the indoor temperature, without ever having to look for a separate remote control again.

Complete your setup

Don't you have a central server running yet to connect this transceiver to? Then discover our ready-made Home Assistant Servers for the ultimate, stable foundation of your smart home. If you prefer to use it traditionally via USB directly next to your hub, you can optionally order an Orico USB hub to create additional ports immediately.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do I pair the RFX-433EMC with Home Assistant?

That depends on your setup. Do you connect it directly via USB? Then Home Assistant connects directly via the built-in RFXCOM integration. Do you choose the flexibility of Wi-Fi? Then the module uses MQTT. Thanks to MQTT Auto Discovery, newly learned devices immediately appear as clear entities in your Home Assistant dashboard.

Should I enable all protocols at once?

No, absolutely not. It is an important best practice to only select the protocols you actually have in your home. If you activate too many protocols simultaneously, the antenna will pick up too much 'ambient noise' (such as your neighbor's wireless thermometer), which will reduce the responsiveness and reliability of your own devices.

Does this product also work with rolling codes?

Yes, for specific protocols such as Somfy RTS handles, the RFXCOM uses a special algorithm to safely handle these changing codes. For high-security applications (such as modern car alarms or encrypted high-security garage doors of specific brands), copying signals is often not possible for security reasons.

Can I also control my smart lighting by voice with this?

The RFX-433EMC itself does not have a built-in microphone or voice assistant. However, once you have linked your 433 MHz devices to Home Assistant via this transceiver, you can certainly control them with your voice via Google Home, Alexa, or a local Voice Assistant.

Does this module also work with Homey?

The RFX-433EMC is primarily designed for open systems such as Home Assistant and Domoticz via USB or MQTT. Because Homey Pro already has its own (more limited) built-in 433 MHz antenna, there is no official, direct plug-and-play app from the manufacturer available for Homey. For advanced users, connection via an MQTT broker is possible (see the download manual above), but we particularly recommend this product for Home Assistant environments.
