Description
π§ Small Size. Big Protection.
Water damage starts small β a dripping drain under the sink, a slowly leaking dishwasher, a condensing water pipe. The Zooz ZSE42 XS Water Leak Sensor is so small it can literally fit under any appliance, but it detects water incredibly quickly via two detection pairs on its underside. As soon as the sensor detects water, it immediately sends a notification to your Z-Wave hub, which can be converted into a push notification, an alarm, or the automatic closing of a smart water shut-off valve via your Smart Home HUB such as Home Assistant or Homey .
The 800-series Z-Wave chip delivers increased range, longer battery life, and faster reporting. Z-Wave Long Range extends the range up to 400 meters βideal for sensors in basements, garages, or outbuildings. The sensor is fully IP66-certified : dustproof and resistant to heavy rainfall.

β Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- How exactly does water detection work?
- The bottom has two pairs of probes. As soon as water bridges one pair, a leak is detected. One bridged pair of probes is enough for an immediate alert.
- Does the ZSE42 have a built-in siren?
- No, the ZSE42 doesn't have an audible alarmβonly an LED signal and a Z-Wave notification. You can easily activate a separate siren or push notification via an automation in Home Assistant or Homey .
- What is Z-Wave Long Range?
- Z-Wave Long Range (ZWLR) extends the range to 400 meters. Useful for sensors far from the hub. Both the hub and sensor must support ZWLR. Home Assistant with Z-Wave JS supports ZWLR.
- Does the ZSE42 work as a Z-Wave repeater?
- No. Battery-powered Z-Wave devices do not function as repeaters. Only AC-powered Z-Wave devices extend the mesh network.
- Which batteries should I NOT use?
- Don't use Duracell batteries β the bitter coating prevents proper contact. Use Energizer, Panasonic, or Maxell CR2450.
- Can I adjust how long the sensor reports "wet"?
- Yes, in Parameter 2 you can set how many seconds (0β3600) the sensor will continue to report "wet" after the water has disappeared. Default: 0 seconds (reports dry immediately).
- Can the ZSE42 be placed outside?
- Yes, thanks to IP66 certification, the sensor is resistant to dust and heavy rainfall. Outdoor installation is permitted, preferably under a canopy to avoid direct sunlight.
