Smart Control Over Heavy Taxes ⚡
Not every smart switch is built for heavy-duty use. The MOES A5 Zigbee Relay Switch is. This compact DIN-rail relay switches loads up to 63A (think boilers, electric heaters, charging stations for electric cars, air conditioners, and industrial equipment) completely remotely via Home Assistant with ZHA/Zigbee2MQTT or with a Tuya HUB with Zigbee .
Besides switching, the A5 also provides real-time energy monitoring : current, voltage, power, and total consumption are continuously visible in your smart home dashboard. Set adjustable protection thresholds for overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage, overload, and overheating; the A5 automatically shuts down when a limit is exceeded and sends a notification to your smart home system.
The A5 also functions as a Zigbee router , automatically extending the range of your Zigbee mesh network as long as it is running on AC power.
⚠️Important : The MOES A5 is a relay/switch , not a true circuit breaker. It does not protect against short circuits. Always use a traditional fuse group for short-circuit protection with this device.
✅ Key Features & Benefits
- 63A suitable – Switches heavy loads such as boilers, charging stations, air conditioners and electric heaters
- Real-time energy measurement – Continuous insight into current (A), voltage (V), power (W) and total consumption (kWh)
- 5 adjustable protection thresholds – Automatic shutdown for overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage, overload and overheating
- Zigbee 3.0 router – Automatically strengthens the Zigbee mesh network
- Fully local via Home Assistant – Works without cloud via Zigbee2MQTT (model TS011F) or ZHA
- OTA firmware updates – Wireless updates via your Zigbee hub
- 3 power-on modes after power failure – Always on, always off or remember previous mode
- Adjustable LED indicator – Reflects relay status or always on/off
- Countdown timer – Automatically switch off after adjustable time
- UL94 V-0 Flame Retardant – Housing is flame resistant, no dripping melt plastic
- DIN Rail Mounting – Fits standard 35mm DIN rail, taking up only 1 module width
- Physical on/off button – Local control without app or hub
🔌 Compatibility
| Platform | Support |
|---|---|
| Home Assistant | ✅ Zigbee2MQTT (model TS011F) + ZHA |
| Zigbee2MQTT | ✅ Officially supported as "Moes A5" |
| Tuya Smart / Smart Life | ✅ Via Tuya Zigbee hub |
| Homey / Homey Pro | ✅ Zigbee supported |
| Amazon Alexa | ✅ Via Tuya or Zigbee hub |
| Google Home | ✅ Via Tuya or Zigbee hub |
💡 Use with Home Assistant via Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA requires a Zigbee coordinator such as the SONOFF ZBDongle-E .
🏠 Practical Example: Smart Boiler Protection
- The MOES A5 is installed in the meter cupboard on the boiler group.
- In Home Assistant you can set an overcurrent threshold of 16A – the A5 will automatically switch off if the threshold is exceeded.
- An automation switches the boiler on at night during the off-peak rate and off during the day.
- Use the energy dashboard to monitor the exact consumption of your boiler per day, week and month.
- If the meter box overheats, the A5 immediately sends a push notification and switches itself off.
🔧 Adjustable Security Thresholds
| Security | Adjustable range | Action in case of exceedance |
|---|---|---|
| Overheating | 40°C – 150°C | Auto power off |
| Overload (power) | 1W – 26,000W (26 kW) | Auto power off |
| Flood | 1A – 63A | Auto power off |
| Overvoltage | 220V – 265V | Auto power off |
| Undervoltage | 76V – 240V | Auto power off |

⚠️ Points of attention
- No short-circuit protection – Always combine with a traditional fuse or circuit breaker for short-circuit protection
- Phase wire only (L) – The A5 only switches the phase wire; the neutral wire (N) runs continuously
- Electrician installation recommended – Due to the high power (up to 63A), professional installation is highly recommended
- IP20 – Only suitable for installation in a closed meter cupboard or installation housing
- Zigbee coordinator required – The A5 does not operate standalone; a Zigbee hub is required
❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- Is the MOES A5 a real circuit breaker?
- No. The A5 is a smart relay with safety features, but it does not have thermal or magnetic short-circuit protection. Always use the A5 in combination with a standard fuse or circuit breaker for short-circuit protection.
- Which heavy devices can I control with the A5?
- The A5 is suitable for loads up to 63A at 90–250V AC. Practical applications include boilers, heat pumps, electric car charging stations, air conditioning units, electric underfloor heating, and industrial equipment.
- Does the A5 work completely locally with Home Assistant?
- Yes. Using Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA in Home Assistant , the A5 operates entirely locally without the cloud. All energy measurement data, threshold settings, and switching commands are sent via your local Zigbee network.
- Does the A5 strengthen my Zigbee network?
- Yes! As long as the A5 is powered by AC power, it automatically functions as a ZigBee router and boosts the range of your ZigBee mesh network.
- Can I set the A5 to automatically switch off when overloaded?
- Yes. You can set a threshold for each of the five protection parameters (overcurrent, overvoltage, undervoltage, overload, and overheating). Once a threshold is exceeded, the A5 automatically shuts down and sends a notification to your hub.
- What does the A5 do after a power outage?
- You can choose from three behaviors after power restoration: always on, always off, or remember the previous setting. Configure them via Home Assistant or the Tuya app.
- Do I need a Zigbee coordinator?
- Yes, the A5 requires a Zigbee hub or coordinator. For use with Home Assistant , we recommend the SONOFF ZBDongle-E .
