The link between your roller blinds and your smart home

The MotionBlinds Upgrade Kit (MB001) works fine via the cord or a remote control, but those who want to embed their blinds in a smart home system need the WiFi Bridge. The MB005 translates the 433 MHz signal from the motor module to your home network, enabling control via app, Home Assistant, Homey and voice assistants, even remotely outside your home network.

Power and connectivity

The bridge connects to your home network via Wi-Fi and communicates wirelessly via 433 MHz RF with the paired motor modules. Power is supplied via a provided USB power adapter. The bridge supports bidirectional communication, making motor position feedback available in the app and in Home Assistant.

Functionality and settings

Using the Motionblinds app, you connect the bridge to your network and add motor modules per room or zone. Schedules, sunrise and sunset automations are adjustable without additional software. The bridge supports multiple motor modules simultaneously.

Expansion and accessories

The WiFi Bridge is the central link for those who want to bring multiple MotionBlinds Upgrade Kits (MB001) together in one system. For Matter support, the MotionBlinds Matter Bridge CM-55 is available, soon also via slimhuisje.nl. The MotionBlinds Remote (MB003/MB004) works alongside the bridge as a physical fallback.

Security and reliability

After the initial pairing via the app, the bridge works locally on your home network. Control via Home Assistant works without cloud dependency. Only the Motionblinds app uses the cloud for remote control outside your home network.

Home Assistant

The WiFi Bridge connects directly to Home Assistant via the official Motionblinds integration. Pairing procedure:

• Connect the bridge to your network via the Motionblinds app.
• In Home Assistant, go to Settings, then Integrations, then add Motionblinds.
• Home Assistant automatically discovers the bridge via the local network.
• After pairing, the motor modules appear as cover entities with position control and status feedback.
• Control is fully local, without cloud dependency after setup.

The bridge is not required for the Bluetooth motor module (MB002), which communicates directly with Home Assistant via the BLE integration.

Homey

Works with Homey Pro and Homey Bridge via the official Motionblinds app. After pairing, the motor modules are available as devices in flows and zones. Matter is not supported via the WiFi Bridge; the CM-55 bridge is required for this.

Other platforms

Compatible with Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Apple Home and Samsung SmartThings via the Motionblinds app and the WiFi Bridge as the connection point.

Sunset automation

• Trigger: sun.sun goes to below_horizon.
• Action: set all cover entities in the living room to close.
• Result: blinds close automatically at sunset, even when you're not home.

Presence combined with temperature

• Trigger: sensor.buitentemperatuur rises above 26 °C.
• Condition: binary_sensor.aanwezigheid_thuis is on, time window 10:00–16:00.
• Action: set cover.rolgordijn_woonkamer to position 30%.
• Notification: "Living room blind automatically partially closed due to heat."

Points of attention

• Required for smart home integration of the 433 MHz motor module (MB001); not required for the Bluetooth motor module (MB002).
• Works exclusively with MotionBlinds 433 MHz motor modules; not suitable as a standalone Matter hub.
• External control outside your home network requires an active internet connection and the Motionblinds cloud.
• Matter is not supported via the WiFi Bridge; the CM-55 bridge is required for this.

Do I also need the WiFi Bridge for the Bluetooth motor module (MB002)?

No. The Bluetooth motor module (MB002) communicates directly with Home Assistant via the BLE integration and with the app via Bluetooth. The WiFi Bridge is only useful for the 433 MHz motor module (MB001) or if you also want to control the Bluetooth motor outside your home network.

Does the bridge work completely locally?

Yes, control via Home Assistant is completely local after the initial setup. The Motionblinds app does use the cloud for external control outside your home network. An active internet connection is then required.

How many motor modules can I connect to one bridge?

The bridge supports multiple motor modules simultaneously. The exact maximum is stated in the included manual. Via Home Assistant or Homey, you can easily group the motors per room or zone.

Does the WiFi Bridge support Matter?

No. For Matter support, the MotionBlinds Matter Bridge CM-55 is required, soon to be available via slimhuisje.nl. The WiFi Bridge does work with Apple Home, Google Home and Amazon Alexa via the Motionblinds app.

What do I need to get started?
