Retrofit roller blind motor without wiring

The chain mechanism of your existing roller blind disappears, the MotionBlinds Upgrade Kit slides into the tube and takes over. Without additional accessories, you operate the motor via the patented cord, always available. If you want to control it via smartphone, Home Assistant or Homey, you need the WiFi Bridge (MB005). A remote control is also available separately and is not included.

Power and connectivity

The motor operates at 433 MHz and communicates bi-directionally with the MotionBlinds WiFi Bridge (MB005) for smart home integration. Without this bridge, control via app, Home Assistant or Homey is not possible. Power is supplied via a built-in rechargeable battery with USB-C connection; in an average household, charging a few times a year is sufficient, depending on curtain size and frequency of use.

Functionality and settings

Suitable for roller blind tubes with an outer diameter of 25 to 31 mm. Maximum curtain size: 240×190 cm or 180×240 cm (W×H). The motor supports up and down movement and is adjustable via the Motionblinds app or remote control. Each MotionBlinds Upgrade Kit can be set without a remote control thanks to the patented cord. The motor is available in white.

Expansion and accessories

For smart home control, you need the MotionBlinds WiFi Bridge, available separately. If you want to add Matter support, the MotionBlinds Matter Bridge CM-55 is the right addition, also coming soon to slimhuisje.nl. For multiple curtains, you control everything via the MotionBlinds Remote 5 Channel. You charge via the MotionBlinds USB-C cable.

Safety and reliability

By completely removing the chain mechanism, you eliminate a potential hazard for children and pets. Manual operation via the cord remains available as a fallback, even without power or connection.

Home Assistant

The MotionBlinds Upgrade Kit works via 433 MHz and requires the WiFi Bridge (MB005) as an intermediary to Home Assistant. Pairing procedure:

• Connect the WiFi Bridge to your network via the Motionblinds app.
• Home Assistant automatically discovers the bridge via the official Motionblinds integration.
• After pairing, entities such as cover.rollerblind_livingroom will appear with positions and open/close control.
• Control is local via the bridge, no cloud dependency after initial setup.

Matter is not supported on this motor itself. Matter is possible via the MotionBlinds Matter Bridge CM-55, coming soon to slimhuisje.nl.

Homey

Works with Homey Bridge and Homey Pro via the official Motionblinds app. The WiFi Bridge is also required here and not included. Control and automations via flows are fully supported. Matter is not available via Homey on this motor without CM-55.

Other platforms

Compatible with Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Apple Home and Samsung SmartThings, each time via the WiFi Bridge as a connection point.

• Trigger: time 07:30.
• Action: open cover.rollerblind_bedroom.
• Result: curtain opens automatically every morning without manual intervention.

Sun protection based on temperature and presence

• Trigger: sensor.outdoor_temperature rises above 24 °C.
• Condition: binary_sensor.presence_at_home is on, time window 11:00–17:00.
• Action: set cover.rollerblind_livingroom to position 40%.
• Notification to phone: "Living room curtain automatically partially closed due to heat."

Points of attention

• Remote control is not included, available separately: Remote 1 Channel or Remote 5 Channel.
• WiFi Bridge (MB005) is not included and is required for app control, Home Assistant and Homey.

Do I need a hub or bridge?

Are batteries or a remote control included?

Can I control multiple curtains simultaneously?

Yes. Via the WiFi Bridge and Home Assistant or Homey, you can group multiple curtains into scenes or automations. For manual control of five zones simultaneously, use the MotionBlinds Remote 5 Channel.

Does this product work with Matter?

The MB001 motor does not directly support Matter. Matter connection is possible via the MotionBlinds Matter Bridge CM-55, coming soon to slimhuisje.nl. This allows you to work completely locally via Matter in Home Assistant without additional cloud dependency.
