Compatibility & gateway

The BLU Button1 uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and the open BTHome protocol. A gateway is required for use via the Shelly Smart Control app:

• Shelly BLU Gateway (dedicated gateway)
• Shelly Plus, Pro or Gen3 devices (automatically function as Bluetooth gateway, excl. sensors)

Once multiple Shelly Plus/Pro devices are present in the home, they automatically form a Bluetooth mesh network, significantly extending the range of the BLU Button1.

Practical example: movie night with one click

You link the BLU Button1 to a scene via the Shelly app. One press of the button and the Shelly RGBW2 dims to a warm blue tint, the smart plug for the TV turns on, and the smart curtains close automatically. Leaving the room? Long press and everything turns off. No app, no voice – just the button.

Minor drawback

The BLU Button1 works exclusively via Bluetooth and does not have Wi-Fi or direct cloud connectivity. You always need at least one Shelly Plus, Pro or Gen3 device as a gateway nearby for the button to work via the Shelly app. Without a gateway, the button only works in direct-pairing mode with a single Shelly device.

Do I need a gateway?

How many actions can I set?
You can set 4 actions: single click, double click, triple click, and long press. Each action is fully configurable via the Shelly Smart Control app.

How long does the battery last?
The included CR2032 battery lasts up to 2 years with normal use. Replacement is easy, and the battery is widely available.

Can I turn off the buzzer?
Yes, the BLU Button1 has a "Hush" mode which mutes the audio signal. The LED indication remains active.
