DIYANI ZG-303Z | Always perfect soil balance for your plants
Caring for houseplants or a garden border can be quite a challenge. Often, you only notice a plant needs water when its leaves start to droop, or you overwater, leading to root rot. With the DIYANI ZG-303Z, you can eliminate all guesswork from your plant care. This advanced smart sensor continuously monitors soil health and sends data directly to your home automation network. With actions such as continuous soil moisture measurement or detection of critical water shortages, you can directly control your entire smart home.
Power, Connectivity & Range
The DIYANI ZG-303Z uses the reliable and energy-efficient Zigbee 3.0 protocol. Thanks to the mesh nature of the network, the sensor's range is effortlessly extended by surrounding, mains-powered Zigbee devices (such as smart plugs or lights). The sensor operates completely wirelessly and is powered by two AAA alkaline batteries (note: these are not included). Due to its extremely low power consumption, the sensor can last for more than 12 months on a single set of batteries without issues.
Ecosystems & Compatibility
Home Assistant: This sensor offers excellent native integration within Home Assistant via both ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT. The device directly provides accurate entities for soil moisture percentage, temperature, humidity, and current battery status. This allows you to automatically activate a smart scene that turns on automatic watering when the soil becomes too dry.
Homey Pro: The ZG-303Z is fully compatible with Homey Pro via the Hobeian app. The sensor is directly paired under the 'soil_sensor' driver. This allows you to build intuitive Advanced Flows: for example, send a push notification to your smartphone or have your smart speaker give a voice message when your plants are thirsty.
SmartThings: Within the Samsung SmartThings ecosystem, you can effortlessly integrate this sensor via a generic Zigbee Moisture Sensor Edge driver. This allows you to include the sensor in your daily routines and link it to other smart devices in your home.
Tuya / Smart Life: Please note: this specific model is a specialized Zigbee version that is deliberately not compatible with standard Tuya or Smart Life hubs (such as gateways from Action LSC, Nedis, Lidl, or Aldi). The sensor requires an open coordinator to function correctly.
Pro-Tip from slimhuisje.nl: In Home Assistant, use the 'Plant Monitor' integration or a convenient automation blueprint to receive an instant notification on your phone when the moisture percentage drops below 20%, so you know exactly when to get the watering can.

Does this sensor work with the Philips Hue Bridge?
No, the Philips Hue Bridge is exclusively designed for lighting, smart plugs, and basic controls like motion detectors. Specific environmental and agricultural sensors such as this soil moisture sensor are not supported by the Hue system.
Can I connect this sensor to a Tuya or Smart Life gateway?
No, this specific ZG-303Z variant is not compatible with official Tuya or Smart Life gateways (such as those from Action LSC, Nedis, or Lidl). The sensor is specifically designed for use with open smart home platforms like Home Assistant (ZHA / Zigbee2MQTT) and Homey Pro.
Are the necessary batteries included as standard?
No, the DIYANI soil moisture sensor is supplied without batteries. You will need 2x AAA alkaline batteries to power the device (not included).
Is the sensor completely waterproof and suitable for intensive outdoor use?
The measuring probe that is inserted into the ground is fully resistant to moist soil and water. The white plastic housing at the top contains the electronics and is splash-proof. For outdoor use, we recommend placing the sensor under a cover or shelter to prevent heavy rain or direct water jets from entering the battery compartment.
How do I register the sensor to pair it with my system?
You can put the sensor in pairing mode by pressing and holding the physical button on the front (marked with the water drop icon) for 6 seconds. The red LED indicator light under the button will flash briefly to indicate that the sensor is searching for an open Zigbee coordinator.
Can I calibrate the sensor if the values are off?
Yes, if you use the sensor via Zigbee2MQTT in Home Assistant, the driver offers built-in options for temperature calibration, humidity calibration, and soil calibration to perfectly tune the measurements to your specific type of potting soil.
