The Apollo AIR-1 is a compact, expandable, and fully featured air quality sensor, specifically designed for Home Assistant. Thanks to Wi-Fi and ESPHome, the sensor operates entirely locally: your data remains private, no cloud or subscription is required, and you have complete control over your own data and automations.
Available variants:
- Apollo AIR-1 Basic: Measures particulate matter (PM1, PM2.5, PM4, PM10), VOCs, NOx, air pressure, temperature, and humidity.
- Apollo AIR-1 with CO2: Includes a high-quality NDIR CO2 sensor for accurate carbon dioxide measurement.
- Apollo AIR-1 with CO2 & GAS: Expanded with an additional gas sensor (MiCS-4514) for detecting carbon monoxide (CO), ethanol, hydrogen (H2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ammonia (NH3) and methane (CH4).

Het apparaat werd de dag nadat ik hem had besteld al geleverd in een goede verpakking. Inmiddels heb ik de apollo air1 al een aantal dagen draaien. Alles lijkt het goed te doen. Hiermee krijg je een volledig beeld van de kwaliteit van de lucht waarin je tenslotte je dag doorbrengt.
Het enige dat ik jammer vind is dat je nergens een kant en klaar mooi dashboard van Home Assistant hiervoor kunt ophalen. Dat moet je helaas zelf maken. Maar al bij al ben ik zeer tevreden.

Geweldige sensor voor fijnstof, VOC, NOx en CO2. Extreem gemakkelijk te integreren met Home Assistant. Ik heb er nu drie voor drie verschillende ruimtes.

Plugged it in, connected to wifi, automatically discovered by my Pi's homeassistant and it was ready to use in less than 2 minutes!
I have set the LED to change its brightness based on the sensors values

De Apollo AIR-1 Luchtkwaliteit Sensor meet diverse zaken. Hoe betrouwbaar de meetwaarden zijn is moeilijk te zeggen. Soms schieten de meetwaarden ineens omhoog of omlaag zonder een duidelijke reden. Het is dan regelmatig noodzakelijk om de sensor weer even te herstarten. Het zou mooi zijn als duidelijker aangegeven zou zijn wat de grenswaarden zijn.

We begrijpen je zorgen over de fluctuaties in de meetwaarden. Dit kan inderdaad verwarrend zijn. Een paar tips die kunnen helpen:
Plaatsing is cruciaal: Zorg dat de sensor niet te dicht bij ramen, deuren, ventilatieroosters of kooktoestellen staat. Luchtstromingen en lokale bronnen kunnen tijdelijke pieken veroorzaken in de metingen. Ook apparaten zoals 3D-printers kunnen flinke pieken veroorzaken in TVOC en PM2.5 waarden doordat ze tijdens het printen ultrafijne deeltjes en vluchtige organische stoffen uitstoten.
Opwarmtijd: Na het opstarten heeft de sensor 24-48 uur nodig om te stabiliseren en nauwkeurige metingen te geven. In die periode kunnen de waarden nog fluctueren.
Calibratie: De meeste sensoren calibreren zichzelf na verloop van tijd. Als je de sensor verplaatst of herstart, kan het even duren voordat de waarden weer stabiel zijn.
Wat betreft de grenswaarden - dit is inderdaad een mooi punt. De algemeen aanvaarde richtlijnen zijn:
CO₂: < 800 ppm goed, > 1000 ppm ventileren
TVOC: < 220 μg/m³ goed, > 660 μg/m³ slecht
PM2.5: < 25 μg/m³ (EU norm)
Deze waarden zijn ook zichtbaar in de meeste smart home platformen zoals Home Assistant, waar je automatiseringen kunt instellen op basis van deze drempels.

The Air1 sensor has a presence microwave sensor?
No, the Apollo AIR-1 does not have a microwave/mmWave presence sensor. It is mainly an air quality sensor, with measurements such as PM, VOC, NOx, temperature and humidity, and it can optionally track nearby Bluetooth devices, but that is not the same as mmWave presence detection.
If you are looking for a sensor that combines air quality monitoring and presence detection, these are better options:
- Apollo MSR-1:
compact mmWave presence sensor with temperature, humidity and pressure sensing, plus optional CO2 measurement.
- Apollo R PRO-1:
advanced mmWave presence sensor with environmental monitoring and optional SCD40 CO2 module.
- Sensy-One S1 Pro Multi Sense:
mmWave presence sensor with BME688-based air quality data such as eCO2, VOC, IAQ, temperature, humidity and pressure, with optional SCD40 CO2.
- Sensy-One E1 Pro Multi Sense:
Sensy-One positions the E1 Pro as a smart presence sensor with a optional CO2 add-on for air-quality-related use.

So if you specifically want true presence detection, the AIR-1 is not the right model, but the Apollo MSR-1, Apollo R PRO-1, or Sensy-One S1 Pro are better fits
